Valentines Day: Jewelry and watches

CLIFTON PARK (Feb. 10) — At Hoff Jewelers, Valentines Day is about 2 things: hearts and diamonds. At Time Square, it’s the beginning of a personalized gift time of year that stretches through Mothers Day, followed by graduations and wedding season.

“They come in looking for something in the romantic red color,” said Robbie Duncan, a jewelry consultant at Hoff.

At Time Square, a big part of what makes gifts special is the on-the-spot engraving. If you buy an item in the store, Time Square offers 10 characters of engraving for free. And yes, “I love you” is exactly 10 characters.

“We have a laser engraver that enables us to do all sorts of things,” Time Square owner Peter Judd said. “We engrave on different surfaces as well. Glass, leather, wood, crystal. Just about anything we sell is engravable. We can engrave a heart on it.”

At Hoff, Duncan suggests buying a sparkling key to your love’s heart.

“What’s been really popular is these new romantic keys with cubic zirconium in them,” she said. “Of course, anything that ties in with the heart is a good gift.”

Duncan also recommends buying unique presents, such as Cherie Dori beads by Israeli designer Nelly Cohen.

“We do like things that not everyone else has,” Duncan said, “things we won’t find on another woman.”

Meanwhile, at Karalina’s, the big Valentines Day sale is geared towards Chamilia beads — which, along with Brighton leather goods, is one of the store’s top lines. The boutique is offering a “buy 3, get 1 free” sale.

To make sure there is an excellent selection of beads, Karalina’s has been receiving regular shipments from Chamilia — including a steady supply of the company’s new offerings. Chamilia now offers more than 600 designs, including exclusive Disney beads and a “give back” collection that support causes such as breast cancer, autism and world peace.
