Shen, Mechanicville to host H1N1 clinics

CLIFTON PARK (Jan. 28) –Saratoga County Public Health Nursing Services will be offering H1N1 flu clinics for students, parents, siblings 4 years and older, staff and the general public in the Shenendehowa and Mechanicville school district.

The Shen clinic will be 4-7 p.m. Feb. 11 at district office, located at 5 Chelsea Place (off Route 9) in Clifton Park. There is no fee, and no appointment is necessary.

The Mechanicville clinic is 4-7 p.m. Feb. 2 at Mechanicville Elementary School at 25 Kniskern Ave.

H1N1 vaccination is now recommended for all New Yorkers over 6 months of age, not just those in the initial priority groups. This includes senior citizens age 65 and older. The health department warns that the most flu activity occurs from January through March, and flu season runs until May.

Only the H1N1 vaccination will be given at the clinics. There might be preservative (thimerosal) in the vaccine, which will be done via a shot.

Parents who want their child to receive the H1N1 nasal mist can check with their health-care provider or call Saratoga County Public Health at 584.7460 to schedule an appointment.

Children under 10 years old will need to receive a second dose after 28 days. You can get this from your health-care Provider or from the county public health department. Please keep the patient copy form that you will be given after the first vaccine and bring it with you for verification for the second dose.

We do not anticipate a vaccine shortage for anyone coming to the school districh clinic.

A parent or guardian will need to be present to sign a consent form for any child under 18 to receive the vaccine. If you need to send your child with another adult, a parental permission letter must be sent in that is signed and dated.
