Clifton Park Idol to highlight WinterFest

CLIFTON PARK (Jan. 26) — A singing competition for children ages 6-17 and a best soup contest are two highlights of this year’s 20th annual WinterFest, an event with fun for the whole family in several sites throughout town, held this year on Feb. 13.

The Clifton Park Community Chorus will perform inside Clifton Park Center at 11 a.m., and the Clifton Park Idol singing contest will follow starting at 11:45 a.m.

WinterFest logoFirst-place winners of Clifton Park Idol will receive a $100 gift card to Clifton Park Center and a Go Phone courtesy of Radio Shack. Winners will also sing the national anthem at the town’s July 4th concert. Second- and third-place winners will also receive a prize, and all contestants will receive a WinterFest gift.

Displays and demonstrations will be ongoing throughout the day at Clifton Park Center by various community groups. The Shen Inventors will display some of their work, the New York State Police will provide free fingerprinting and identification cards to children through their Operation Safe Child program, and Trout Unlimited will demonstrate fly tying.

The free “Taste of Clifton Park” best soup contest will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the Shenendehowa Adult Community Center at Clifton Common. While there, visitors can listen to the zany, foot-tapping music of The Zucchini Brothers.

Elsewhere, visitors can tour the Dwaas Kill Nature Preserve with open space committee member Frank Berlin. The tour will start at 10 a.m. at the Pierce Road entrance across the street from Prestige Catering. Participants should dress for cold weather and bring snowshoes if there is deep snow. Parking will be available on the side of the road near the nature preserve entrance.

Other WinterFest events are slated for Kinns Road Park, Riverview Orchards and the Clifton Common.
